Conservation Education Group Award 2006
Bosse High School Link Class 2006

Back Row: Gabe Golba, Andrew Coil Chaz Moore
Front Row: Sharon Adams Kat Politz

The EVSC Community Link in its fourth year started as a portion of a grant that was written to improve math scores in elementary and middle schools. The Link was created as just that, a link between the school and the home. Mr. Jack Schreiber (Fine Arts Supervisor) and Mr. Andrew Coil (Bosse Technology teacher and Department Head) co-taught the Link’s first year at Bosse. WNIN agreed to air this program on channels 9, 12, and 13.

The students learn and gain: leadership skills, script writing techniques, interview skills, poise, public speaking skills, camera and audio techniques, computer editing, team work, and Responsibility. A former student once stated that he didn’t feel like a senior in high school, but more like a senior in college, while taking the class. The students can get college credit from USI, if they choose.

Holly McCutchan, SWCD Supervisor & teacher at Bosse asked the Link Group to do a segment on the Vanderburgh County SWCD. The students interviewed Andy Miller, Director of the Indiana State Department of Agriculture before he spoke at last years Vanderburgh County SWCD Annual Meeting and then stayed to film the entire meeting.

The crew interviewed two local farmers, Gary and Kent Rexing on their farms. They asked how the Vanderburgh County SWCD helps them in their daily work on the farm.

The Community Link crew at the time learned some new and interesting things about farms around the community. While visiting the Gary Rexing farm the crew had the chance to interact with the animals and capture some fantastic footage. At Kent Rexing's farm they were able to film in a tractor with Mr. Rexing. It was very exciting for the crew and they admitted to having a great time.

The video aired on WNIN in May 2006 and can be viewed on the district website.

Congratulations Link Group!
