When you think of conservation projects
most of you will picture things like grassed waterways, terraces and water
and sediment control basins. The Vanderburgh County Soil and Water
Conservation District (SWCD) has moved out into a non-traditional area to
apply conservation with non-traditional partners. A traditional partner for
the SWCD is typically an Ag producer. The SWCD has partnered with the
Natural Resources Conservation Service and Urban partners to assist with
stopping erosion on urban land uses. One of the projects is with Mater Dei
High School.

Project after installation of flared inlet pipe structure
The Mater Dei High School project will involve the installation of a flared inlet pipe structure which will repair a huge gully which is jeopardizing the high school’s soccer field. Competition of this structure will have a huge impact on water quality downstream by elimination sediments from entering the stream from this site.
