2008 CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL ENVIROTHON TEAMS
The 2008 Southwest Regional Indiana Envirothon Contest was held at the Vanderburgh 4-H Center on March 11, 2008. Fourteen area teams participated in this year’s event. The High School aged students spent the morning participating in Natural Resource education activities and presentations. Topics included identifying macro-invertebrates and the importance of macro-invertebrates in monitoring stream health, the impact of recreational activities on natural resources, soil properties, wildlife habitat and behaviors and forestry management.

After lunch each team took a five part test. To prepare for these competition students study for several months. The three highest scoring teams are eligible to participate in the State Contest on April 29th. Congratulations to North Posey High School and two teams from New Harmony High School on receiving the top three scores.

Vanderburgh County was well represented again this year by two teams from Central High School; coached by their Chemistry teacher Kay Hoffherr.

Thanks to all committee members, teachers, coaches, volunteers, presenters and students for the continuing success of this program.

It is not too early to form teams for next year. So call the Vanderburgh County SWCD office (812) 867-0729 or any local SWCD office for more information.
